Tommy the Squirrel
It's been so long since I have posted anything. A little over a year now. Lots has happened. Having two jobs has taken any blogging time I would normally have. Not to mention the new beau. Yes!! New beau.
Ok, so let's start. I moved out of my bestie's house and am now living in Henrietta in a house that a friend is renting out to me. Here and her fiance had to move to Buffalo for a job. It's a cute little house and it'll do for the time being. We've done some stuff around the house to make it a bit more my style. I say "we" as in the beau and I, since he now lives here too.
So I'm going to start with a funny squirrel story. This morning we decided to get up and go get some breakfast and run to the grocery afterward. As we got out of the car with groceries in hand I see one of the squirrels run across part of the lawn and up a tree. Not thinking anything of it since we have squirrels everywhere in Rochester, I kept walking. As I get up to the steps that lead to our porch I see what that little guys was running from. I had bought a straw bale, dried corn stalks, some pumpkins and some dried corn to decorate the steps with. There was a whole ear of corn on the ground and the squirrel had been munching on it!! He actually dragged it down from the bale and started eating it. Earlier this week I had stepped out and saw that there was a whole piece of corn husk on the walkway and chalked it up to the high winds we had had. Well now I know it was Tom the squirrel.
My boyfriend has named this squirrel after a guy he doesn't care for. He feels the squirrel is cocky and is disrespectful like his human counterpart. You see, he's had another run-in with this squirrel before. A few weeks ago my boyfriend was getting ready to mow the lawn and was moving some patio chairs out of the way. We noticed that there was a lot of walnut debris from the black walnut trees on the patio furniture. Well Tommy the squirrel and friends sit on the chairs and munch away on the walnuts. So as he brushed off the walnut debris Tommy who was up in the tree threw a walnut at Joe and hit him right on top of the head! All I heard was my Sicilian boyfriend yelling at a squirrel in a tree. I had to laugh when I saw this because it not only sounded funny but because Joe was so mad. So I think the two will be at war from now on. Joe is determined to get this squirrel. This should make for great future blog posts.
Little did this Cali girl imagine that dried corn ears would be attractive to a squirrel. I see these little vignettes all over town in people's yards and porches. So of course I had to have the ONE squirrel in Rochester that likes this. Or he is simply a blatant nuisance. I would never kill a squirrel but the thought of disabling him slightly to slow him down did come to mind. Ha ha.
Well another day in the life of a Cali girl in Upstate New York!
May the adventures continue...
