Snapping out of it

Seems as though I've been in a weird funk the last few years...okay, the last 5 years. When I moved here I said no more re-painting furniture, sewing projects, hand-making ornaments and the such and I definitely wasn't going to start collecting anything again. I especially said no more hunting for "treasures". Well, as my life calms down a bit and I'm not working 50-60 hour weeks I seem to have the need to create!!! I guess it never goes away. And I have slowly come to realize that I love doing that stuff. It gives me joy. I've done some projects here and there and felt that "high" of satisfaction. I have snapped out of my all-work-no-play, project-less, life funk. Guess I'm just a project junkie...lol!

Today I thought I would start on some Christmas decor. I know it's still early but I feel like in the past I have a ton of projects I want to do but before I know it, boom...Christmas!

I wanted to do a pumpkin project for Halloween but never had time to get to it. Now Halloween has come and gone. Maybe next year, if I can get my act together sooner.

My Christmas project came about from the fact that when you walk in the door of my apartment you see the bedroom straight ahead through the hallway. Last Christmas I saw it every time and thought how nice it would be to spruce it up for Christmas. I wanted it simple but definitely Christmas-y. This summer I picked up two vintage white coverlets for $5 each at a flea market. I picked up two because I wasn't sure if one was going to cover our queen size bed. I figured if anything I would add sides to one from the other. Luckily one fit the bed just fine even though the lady insisted that they only made them in twin and full/double. Okay, I will take both then. Why argue right? Anyway, it looks fab on the bed.

Then I went to Joanns for some pretty plaid fabric and pillow forms. I picked out four different plaids. Three were for pillows and one for a throw. I figured it would be easy sewing and I could get it done fast. I made envelope pillow covers so that I can change them out for every season. Since I live in an apartment I don't have much storage space, so covers take up less space when put away.

I plan to put some evergreen garland across the headboard, maybe add some lights and maybe, just maybe a small little tree with some fun ornaments. Yes, a 2nd tree. It's been so long since I've had two trees. I'm actually excited for Christmas decorating, baking and creating.

I am also working on some really cute Christmas tea towels. Mr B and I rent a small booth at a local antique mall. I figure I will put some tea towels in it for sale and see what happens. I just put a few vintage Christmas items in it. We went to the 50 mile garage sale this summer and I scored a couple of fun vintage Christmas decorations. But that's another blog post.

Can't wait to decorate the rest of the house, but if I do it too early Mr B is going to lose a gasket. He already thinks I'm crazy! Imagine him coming home from work and all Christmas decor is up!

Here is a pic of the tea towels I made the other day.
